Global Detention Project
A complex ecosystem
The Global Detention Project collects and publishes information on detention systems and detainee conditions worldwide through a distributed network of researchers contributing to a centralized Data Management System (DMS).
Structured data gathered through the platform is synchronized and published to the organization's WordPress website through a custom API infrastructure, enabling the public dissemination of complex research findings and country-based reporting.
The challenge
As the project evolved, the organization needed to redesign the public-facing platform in order to improve navigation, accessibility and the cross-referencing of reports, news entries, blog content and structured research data.
At the same time, the underlying DMS required continuous refinement, feature enhancements and infrastructural adjustments, which needed to remain interoperable with the public website and its editorial workflows.
What we did
Our approach focused on understanding real operational needs, minimizing unnecessary technical overhead and progressively improving data accessibility without disrupting the broader digital ecosystem supporting the project.
The platform continues to be maintained and supported through an ongoing collaboration with Level73 focused on maintainability, interoperability and the long-term sustainability of the system.
